The Mighty United Oy, a Finnish EdTech start-up focusing on social emotional learning of primary school kids, is raising teachers’ interest around the world and just closed its first external funding round. Social skills are part of 21st Century Skills which are high on schools agenda globally. Also Finland’s excellent reputation as the pedagogical leader of the world has sped up the interest. Mighty United wants all kids to understand how their behavior impacts others by developing kids’ social emotional learning. Mightifier® method and application have been co-created with Finnish teachers and kids, and it’s based on peer-to-peer positive feedback on classmates’ character strengths. According to pilot results in Finland spring 2016, Mightifier® improved social skills and self-esteem, decreased bullying and classroom restlessness. International pilots have already started in Chicago and Silicon Valley and more will kick off later on this year in South East Asia. Besides piloting, inquiries from interested teachers are coming from all over the world. Currently Mightifier® is being used by teachers in Finland, US and Columbia, where it’s available in AppStore. New release will be launched in January 2017 and the application will be available in both AppStore and GooglePlay globally. The start-up has just closed its first external funding round with three business angels Pasi Joronen, Niklas Geust and Teri Heilala, xEdu start-up accelerator and Courage Ventures Seed Fund 1.
“We’re thrilled to be part of Mightifier journey, one that is making a positive social and emotional impact in children around the world,”
concludes Fabian Sepulveda, Partner, Courage Ventures. With the external funding Mighty United is developing the service to world-class level with both pedagogical and experience side. Also measuring the impact from international pilots is seen essential.
“The international pilots will provide us learnings of local school cultures and local impact. We’ll see if and how the measured change will differ from the Finnish results. We’re focused on strengthening the class wellbeing with Mightifying and providing teachers data about the development,”
