Twelve best European innovative business ideas were introduced last week at the Ideas from Europe finals in The Hague, Netherlands. Among the best dozen to take the stage was also the Finnish EdTech start-up The Mighty United.

Ideas from Europe competition was organized for the third year in a row to search for innovative business ideas solving global problems. In November 2017 the Ideas from Europe semi-finals were held in Tallinn and 12 most promising ideas were invited to the April finals in The Hague. EdTech innovation Mightifier from the education super power Finland was one of the 12 who got to pitch on the stage of regal Knight’s Hall.

The wonderful final event was opened with a keynote speech by Mona Keijzer, the State Secretary for Economic Affairs and Climate Policy of Netherlands. We were delighted also to see a video message from the Vice-President of European Commission, Jyrki Katainen, who is also a former prime minister of Finland! All the speakers got to pitch for an engaged audience and the event was broadcasted live for international viewers.

When it was time for Mervi Pänkäläinen, the CEO of The Mighty United, to take the stage, the focus was on social skills and wellbeing. “I’m calling all education decision makers and ministries of education. Please, integrate social and emotional learning in to your counties’ curricula and make sure that social intelligence is one of the key competencies of the future”, Pänkäläinen said.

Mightifier app is a positive peer communication tool that teaches students to give each other positive feedback based on character strengths and daily behavior. The effects are instant and measurable. Boosting social skills affects students’ self-esteem, wellbeing and ability to learn. “Bullied kids lose hope. And we can’t let that happen. I won’t let that happen!” Pänkäläinen emphasized.

We were extremely excited and proud to represent Finland in the Ideas from Europe finals. Congratulations also to all the other companies in the finals! It was wonderful to listen to the inspirational pitches by Bloomlife, LuxAI, SEEDia, Pavnext, Apis Protect, Too Good to Go, Speak Up!, Refugees{code}, Ichò, Dreem and Micreos. In case you missed the live broadcast, you can now can watch all the pitches on Ideas from Europe YouTube channel.

Voting for the most important value track is also now open here! On the second page, you’ll find Mightifier in the Empowering respectful societies – category, together with the Swedish anti-bullying app Speak Up!.

Huge thanks to the Ideas from Europe organizers for such a wonderful event! Also thanks to Tekes for nominating Mightifier as the Finnish representative.
