Finnish education technology company Mightifier has joined the Safer Schools in America Impact Initiative, led by Global Grid for Learning (GG4L) and McREL. Through the partnership, Mightifier’s positive school culture program, which cultivates a safe and respectful learning environment while promoting student and teacher well-being, will be implemented in schools across the U.S., while driving impact research into school climate and safety.
Through the GG4L and McREL Safer Schools for America Impact Initiative grants, totaling $25M for education technologies and services, 500 eligible schools from 250 districts across the country will implement innovative products, including Mightifier’s school culture and safety program. The impact on school safety will be followed and reported quarterly by McREL over the next three years.
Data supported tools for student and teacher well-being
Co-created with Finnish teachers, school leaders, and students, Mightifier empowers students to practice “active empathy” by providing peer-to-peer positive feedback based on research-backed character strengths, including honesty, compassion, growth mindset, self-regulation, and social intelligence.
Cross-curricular activities enable teachers to integrate social and emotional learning (SEL) into the classroom. Teachers and school administrators are also provided with essential tools that provide detailed data and give valuable insight into school culture, while identifying potential issues around student safety and social isolation.
”There is a fundamental urgency to provide quality school safety research, and we are excited to participate in this important initiative,” adds Mervi Pänkäläinen, Mightifier’s founder and CEO.
“Traditionally, softer skills promoted with SEL programs have been considered difficult to measure, and it’s especially important at this point in time, with such increased focus on this topic, to demonstrate impact. The partnership with GG4L and McREL is a wonderful opportunity to follow how safe and encouraging learning environments impact student performance, safety, and overall well-being.”
