In June we were visiting World Learning Summit in Norway where we met very motivated people from edtech sector. And finally yesterday, we were happy to have some of those new friends visiting us. To our surprise, they weren’t traveling alone. And what happened was that we got to meet with Their Majesties King Harald V and Queen Sonja of Norway and Mr. President Sauli Niinistö and Ms. Haukio. The Innovation Norway business seminar to which also we were invited was organized in Helsinki to promote the collaboration within Nordics.
Instead of a typical business seminar presentation, we had prepared a small interactive surprise to the guests.
We asked Mr. President and His Majesty King Harald V to Mightify each other’s countries with the same character strengths that kids use. Both of them accepted the challenge, and after clarifying that one couldn’t select all strengths,Mr. President chose Fairness for Norway. In his turn, His Majesty King Harald V didn’t hesitate one second – it was Courage for Finland! Wonderful choices!
Our goal number one was to teach the guests why it is important to develop kids’ social and emotional skills. We wanted to show them how mastering those skills leads to increased social capital and a stronger belief in one’s own future. In the long run, as a concrete economic evidence, social and emotional skills contribute to savings on both individual and societal levels (i.e., health care, working readiness, and social exclusion costs).
We were proud to highlight our first results and showcase a few wonderful examples of how kids have mightified each other by first picking a strength to a classmate and then writing a short description of their reasoning.
According to kids, the best thing about Mightifying is to see how happy the other person becomes. It looks like this was true also for these prestigious gentlemen.
Thank you for spending your time with us and let’s keep on Mightifying!
